| Description | Do you struggle to switch off, feel guilty when resting or find that no achievement ever feels quite enough? Burnout is often seen as a consequence of excessive workload, but the way we relate to achievement and self-worth can also play an important role. This interactive workshop explores why high-achieving healthcare professionals can become trapped in cycles of overwork and self-pressure, and introduces practical strategies for developing a healthier and more sustainable relationship with work. |
| Additional information | This session explores the relationship between self-worth, performance and burnout in medical training. We will consider how experiences within education, training and wider culture can lead to a sense of worth being closely tied to achievement, productivity and external validation. The session will examine how this can impact wellbeing, confidence and responses to feedback, and how it may contribute to stress and burnout over time. Practical approaches will be introduced to support a more balanced and sustainable sense of self-worth, alongside strategies to reduce pressure and improve wellbeing. The session is interactive and reflective in style, using a combination of brief teaching, guided reflection and discussion. It is suitable for all doctors and dentists in training and does not require prior knowledge.
