An Introduction to Courageous Leadership for Clinical and Educational Supervisors (FD22SEP26)

This interactive one-day virtual workshop is designed for NHS educators and clinicians who want to develop their leadership capability in a practical, reflective and psychologically safe way. Drawing on the research of Brené Brown and the Dare to Lead framework, the course introduces courageous leadership as a set of behaviours and skillsets that can be learned, practised and strengthened over time. Participants will explore the four core skillsets of courageous leadership and the behaviours that support trust, accountability and effective team working.

To introduce courageous leadership as a set of learnable skillsets and behaviours, supporting participants to reflect on their call to courage and what gets in the way of leading bravely.

This course will:

• Introduce the core concepts at the heart of courageous leadership.
• Explore the four key skillsets required for courageous leadership and how they can be learned and developed.
• Examine the behaviours that characterise courageous leadership and support trust and accountability.
• Support participants to identify their personal call to courage as a leader.
• Create space for participants to explore what gets in the way of stepping into courageous leadership.

After attending this course, participants will be able to:

• Describe the core concepts and four skillsets that underpin courageous leadership.
• Recognise the behaviours that support trust, accountability and effective leadership.
• Articulate their personal call to courage as a leader.
• Identify common patterns and protective strategies that can get in the way of leading courageously.
• Approach tough conversations with greater clarity and confidence, informed by an understanding of courageous leadership behaviours.
