Aims | The overall purpose of the days can be broken down into 4 key areas. 1.Allowing Trainees to explore their career aspirations and broaden their views on different ways to progress their careers within the NHS. 2.Providing a comprehensive range of different specialties for them to interact with in an informative yet relaxed manner. 3. Providing skills required for success in being recruited such as the MSRA, interview skills and portfolio development. 4. Allowing space for DiT to network with more senior clinicians from a range of specialities. This will allow them to arrange taster days.
Objectives | The morning lectures will aim to give trainees useful tips and tricks to improving the chances of getting into core surgical and medical training. This will be followed by information around the multi-specialty recruitment assessment that is now required by many specialties to gain a training post. There will then be the first of two Careers marketplaces of the day. Trainees will choose two 25 minute sessions. They will get to meet clinicians in small groups in specialities they are interested in, learn about the speciality and get to ask questions in an interactive session. Speciality stations: - Core Surgery - Orthopaedics - Paediatrics - Obstetrics and Gynaecology - Psychiatry - Emergency Medicine - Anaesthetics and ITU - General Practice - Core Medical Training - Radiology They can also choose to attend the Interview and Application skills stations which include: - Portfolio self-assessment - Clinical cases at interview - Ethical cases at interview - Interview skills Lectures in the afternoon will aim to give foundation trainees a broader understanding of different way to train, such as the SAS grade and CESR, F3 posts and out of programme activities, as well as training abroad. There will then be another marketplace session where trainees can choose two more stations to attend. The day will conclude with lectures on those specialities that foundation doctors may not have considered.
