SubjectF2 Regional Teaching
DescriptionThe Acute Systematic Clinical Emergency Response and Treatment, or ASCERT, program is an intensive 2-day course (First day 30th Nov, second 1st Dec) that is designed for medical professionals who deal directly with acutely unwell adult patients. ASCERT is primarily engineered for junior doctors in Foundation Year 2 and early core/specialist training years. However, other medical professionals who have a direct role in patient assessment may also register. If you would like to improve the outcome of your treatment of acutely ill patients, ASCERT is almost certainly the right option for you. We take pride in the success that our delegates have in the field and we look forward to seeing you in an upcoming ASCERT session. If you have questions regarding the program, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Aims

During this year and in your future careers you will all need to assess and manage acutely unwell patients whatever your long term career aspirations. Acute deterioration in a patient’s clinical condition can occur in any setting and potentially in any way. Early recognition of acute illness, its organised, effective assessment and appropriate early management is vital and has direct influence on their definitive care and on patient outcome ie both their morbidity and their mortality. As you are fully aware, our patients do not necessarily conform to the ‘manual’ and inadvertently may make their clinical care more complex and challenging.

We have developed ASCERT to address this, to help you and to help your patients: ASCERT is intended to aid your development and consolidation of your acute patient management skills that can be utilised in essentially any setting and, hopefully, will benefit both you and your patients when the going gets tough.

The course will culminate in a pass/fail assessment scenario at the end of day 2.
