| Description | Interactive Workshop to provide a programme that focuses understanding of how healthcare systems influence patient safety. It will introduce to the audience an integrated approach to applying human factors and quality improvement methodologies. The session will be taught using a variety of methods including some simulation. |
| Additional information | Providers: Dr Danielle Franklin BM BSc FRCA MSc and Dr Laura Pickup MSc, PhD Dr Danielle Franklin Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist at Plymouth University Hospital Trust. Clinical lead for MSc Module in Human factors with Plymouth University. Quality Improvement lead for the Association of Paediatric Anaesthetists. Q fellow. 3rd year SSU provider for Plymouth University in Leadership and Management. SWARM Plymouth Consultant lead. Has mentored a number of trainees in both QI and Human Factors and Ergonomics (HFE) and lead a number of successful projects herself. Dr Laura Pickup Independent human factors expert and charted ergonomist. Laura trained as a physiotherapist within the NHS. She has worked for over 18 years providing human factors support within transport industries and healthcare to understand how system design impacts the safety and performance of everyday work. Laura teaches Human factors on MSc Modules at Plymouth and Oxford University. Together Laura and Danielle will use their skills to provide a programme that focuses understanding of how healthcare systems influence patient safety. They will introduce to the audience an integrated approach to applying human factors and quality improvement methodologies. The session will be taught using a variety of methods including some simulation. This is the first programme of its type aimed at junior doctors in the Southwest and the first in the UK to combine expertise of an HFE expert and a working clinician. |
