To improve confidence and understanding among dental professionals in supporting the oral health needs of patients after head and neck cancer treatment, with a focus on prevention, risk management, appropriate referral and equitable access to care.

• Describe the impact of contemporary head and neck cancer treatments on oral health and identify the implications for dental management in primary care.
• Apply evidence-based preventive strategies, including the use of high-fluoride products, to support patients before, during and after treatment.
• Discuss the current evidence relating to osteoradionecrosis and trismus, and apply appropriate principles for risk assessment, management and referral.
• Implement strategies to support attendance, engagement and equitable access to dental care for head and neck cancer patients, including those at increased risk of non-attendance.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to describe the impact of head and neck cancer treatments on oral health, apply evidence-based preventive and management strategies for associated complications, evaluate the risks of osteoradionecrosis and trismus to guide referral decisions, and implement approaches to improve attendance, engagement and equitable access to dental care for head and neck cancer patients.
