Aims

The session will demonstrate the practical application of dental public health principles to reduce oral health inequalities for people living with diabetes.

Objectives

To

  • Outline current Diabetes UK support relating to oral healthcare.
  • Describe the dental public health principles used to embed the importance of oral health within care pathways.
  • Highlight how lived experience of diabetes can enhance the delivery of oral health messages.
Learning outcomes

By the end of the session, delegates will be able to:

  • Interpret key North West oral health data and recognise priority inequalities.
  • Explain the relationship between diabetes and oral health.
  • Use clinical and lived-experience perspectives to communicate practical prevention advice.
  • Identify how dental and wider healthcare teams can support patients to manage their oral healthcare.
