The theory section of this course will be taught online via a 3 hour webinar - Friday 3rd July, 9:30am - 12:30pm. Failure to attend the webinar will result in you not being able to attend the 3 hour hands on clinical skills section of the course.

This course is fully subsidised, if you fail to attend this session without giving 2 weeks notice you will be charged a cancellation fee of £30.

Please note that delegates are expected to leave their simulator and workstation clean and tidy at the end of the course. We would appreciate your cooperation in ensuring all materials are cleared away and the area is left ready for the next session.

Mandatory: Dental Nurse

To equip dental nurses with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to safely and effectively apply fluoride varnish under the prescription of a dentist or as part of a structured oral health programme.

• Discuss the Benefits of Fluoride: Explain the role of fluoride in preventing dental caries and promoting oral health.
• Clinical Evidence: Review the scientific evidence supporting the use of fluoride varnish.
• Dental Health and Disease: Identify common dental diseases and understand how fluoride varnish can help prevent them.
• Contraindications and Safety: Recognise contraindications for fluoride varnish application and identify fluoride toxicity.
• Practical Application: Demonstrate the correct technique for applying fluoride varnish.
• Oral Health Education: Provide basic oral health advice tailored to patients' needs.
• Patient Management: Develop skills in clinical patient management, communication, and consent.
• Scope of Practice: Determine the legal and professional boundaries of dental nurses in fluoride varnish application.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

• Apply Fluoride Varnish: Competently and confidently apply fluoride varnish to patients.
• Educate Patients: Provide effective oral health education and advice.
• Ensure Safety: Identify and manage contraindications and ensure safe use of fluoride varnish.
• Communicate Effectively: Demonstrate effective communication skills with patients and colleagues.
• Adhere to Professional Standards: Work within the scope of practice and adhere to professional and legal standards.
