DescriptionHeRo is an ongoing, Manchester City Council community, oral health intervention for children incorporating key behavioural principles for oral health promotion developed and evaluated by the University of Manchester. HeRo incorporates a universal provision of oral health resources to all children born in Manchester over a 2-year period as well as a targeted intervention in areas of the city who are deemed to have the highest need for oral health support.

Objectives

To

  • introduce audience to HeRo intervention
  • provide an overview of the rationale for HeRo
  • explore the key techniques and mechanisms of action in HeRo
  • review available, preliminary data and interim results
Learning outcomes

Participants will be able to:

  • Identify benefits of community-based oral health interventions for children
  • Explore key principles of an evidence-based, theory-driven intervention for oral health promotion for children
  • Review key skills and techniques incorporated in the intervention
