Aims

To

  • Demonstrate clinical assessment of the temporomandibular joints, muscles of mastication and teeth with respect to occlusion and restorative dentistry.
  • Explain how this assessment fits into patient examination protocols and influences treatment planning for patients requiring restorative dentistry.
Objectives

Delegates will have had the opportunity to:

  • Complete a clinical examination of the temporomandibular joints, muscles of mastication and teeth on another delegate.
  • Fabricate a Lucia jig for another delegate.
  • Perform a facebow transfer recording on another delegate.
  • Locate centric relation and record the first point of tooth contact in this jaw relationship.
Learning outcomes

This hands-on day will enable general dental practitioners to improve their knowledge and skills in relation to occlusion and the importance of assessment of the temporomandibular system to ensure best restorative care for their patients.
