With Safeguarding Level 2 in the morning and a Radiography Update in the afternoon, this study day will be valuable for all members of the Dental Team.

This bespoke course has been designed to give the dental team the opportunity to get up to date information on two CQC and GDC recommended topics within one day. Glenys Hurst- Robson from The Athena Programme has over 13 years of experience working in the field of Safeguarding. Her enthusiasm & experience will ensure that this high-quality session will prove invaluable for each member of your team.

The afternoon session, on radiation protection, will discuss the key changes to IRMER 17 that came into force in January 2018. Tracey Gregory is a qualified diagnostic radiographer with 24 years of experience including lecturing at the University of Derby. Tracey’s wealth of knowledge will ensure that your team are fully equipped to deal with Radiography in your workplace.

Aims

Safeguarding Level 2

This course will increase confidence in identifying abuse or neglect, reporting abuse or neglect both internally in practice and externally to local authorities or the Police. It will help professionals develop strategies to manage the reality of making a safeguarding report and improve the safety of patients. This course will help you become familiar with the role and responsibilities of your practice Designated Lead/Person for Safeguarding.

Radiography Update

  • To review the key elements of IRR 17 and IR(ME)R 2017 as they apply to dental radiography, and how compliance is evidenced through the radiation protection file;
  • To consider the roles, responsibilities, and scope of practice of members of the dental team with regard to IRR 17 and IR(ME)R 2017.
Objectives

Safeguarding Level 2

Safeguarding Children Level 2

Discussions on:

  • Child development/ National assessment framework (attachment theory)
  • Child Protection (CP) Process (Working Together 2015)
  • Joint investigation process and roles / responsibilities of professionals involved
  • Perspective of child and family involved in CP process.
  • Knowledge of C.P. Conferences and role of independent reviewing officer
  • Knowledge of LSCB’S and current changes

Safeguarding Adults at Risk Level 2

Discussions on:

  • Understanding roles and responsibilities of others under Safeguarding Adults at Risk Procedures
  • Understanding the investigation process from concern to outcome meeting and the Sec 42 Enquiry Process
  • Understanding emotional aspect of making a decision for another who lacks capacity.
  • Demonstrating an awareness of the main principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Best interest principle
  • Understanding the requirements of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
  • Other safeguarding arrangements e.g. MAPPA and MARAC and National Child and Domestic abuse Disclosure schemes
  • Knowledge of SAP Boards Referral pathway- meeting structure - timescales

Radiography Update

  • To provide delegates with the opportunity to review the key elements of IRR 17 and IR(ME)R 2017 as they apply to dental radiography
  • To provide delegates with the opportunity to consider their roles, responsibilities and scope of practice under IRR 17 and IR(ME)R 2017.
Learning outcomes

Safeguarding Level 2

From this course you will gain an overview of legislation and guidance relating to the child protection process ( Section 17 and 47) and the adult abuse investigation process (Sec 42 Enquiries) as well as exploring how to make decisions about dental treatment for patients who lack capacity.

Radiography Update

By the end this session, delegates will;

  • Understand the key elements of IRR 17 and IR(ME)R 2017 as they apply to dental radiography;
  • Be able to define their roles and responsibilities under IRR 17 and IR(ME)R 2017 with due regard to their scope of practice.
