Aims

To provide dental staff with the knowledge to assess, manage and treat the seriously ill patient within the dental surgery until emergency assistance arrives

Objectives
  • Identify the appropriate medical emergency treatment to a range of age groups taken unwell in your practice.
  • Indicate how to work collaboratively as a team when presented with a medical emergency.
  • Apply lifesaving intervention and plan the outcome/destination of incident.
  • Describe the use of flowcharts in order to provide a systematic approach when dealing with each emergency.
  • Recognise how to prioritise patients, call 999 when indicated, provide an update or cancel.
  • Determine competent administration of lifesaving drugs and provide effective Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Identify how to provide continued care until the arrival of the emergency services
