To update and support Educational Supervisors in their role.

To enhance supervisors’ understanding of the Early Years Dentist curriculum and its practical application.

To promote best practice in completing supervised learning events (SLEs) and writing educational reports.

To foster networking and collaboration among Educational Supervisors and the Training Programme Director.

Objectives

Review the key responsibilities and expectations of the Educational Supervisor role.

Summarise the structure and core content of the Early Years Dentist curriculum, including recent updates.

Demonstrate effective completion of supervised learning events.

Apply best practice principles in writing educational and end-of-year reports, with awareness of common pitfalls.

Identify avenues for support and communication with the TPD and peers within the scheme.

Share experiences and solutions to common challenges in Foundation Dentist supervision through discussion and networking.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

Explain the key responsibilities and expectations of the Educational Supervisor (ES) role in the context of early years dental training.

Describe the structure and core content of the Early Years Dentist curriculum, including any recent updates, and illustrate its practical application in training.

Demonstrate how to effectively conduct and document Supervised Learning Events (SLEs) to support trainee development.

Apply best practice approaches in writing educational and end-of-year reports, and recognise common pitfalls to avoid.

Identify sources of support and communication channels with the Training Programme Director (TPD) and fellow Educational Supervisors.

Engage in peer discussion to share experiences, strategies, and solutions to challenges in Foundation Dentist supervision, enhancing collaborative practice.
