Lecturer profileGavin graduated from the University of Manchester in 2004 with distinction. He was awarded the Charles Preston Medal for his performance in his final examinations as well as the British Dental Association prize for the best overall performance throughout his final year.
Following completion of his vocational training year he undertook two years general professional training within the North West Deanery. During this period he passed his diploma for the Membership of Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh.
Gavin returned to general practice in 2007. He has extensive experience of general practice in a variety of different settings from predominantly NHS service in high-need areas of Liverpool to more established private practice in Manchester City centre. He worked as a Speciality Doctor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in the Pennine Acute Trust for ten years treating minor oral surgery cases combined with mentoring of junior colleagues. He currently works as an oral surgeon in primary care.
Gavin's other main interests lie in surgical dentistry and the restoration of a patient's dentition with dental implants. He has completed a year long course in implant dentistry with the Centre for Advanced Dental Education and continued his post graduate studies by undertaking the gold standard of implant diplomas with the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners and the Royal College of Surgeons England. He currently lectures for the University of Manchester MSc in dental implantology.
