Aims
  • To describe the common bleeding disorders relevant to dental practice and their potential impact on dental care provision.
  • Enhance practitioners’ knowledge and understanding of the principles of safe and effective management of patients with bleeding disorders in the dental setting.
Objectives
  • Discuss common bleeding disorders encountered in dental practice.
  • Identify which types of dental treatment require referral to secondary care and explain the reasons for referral.
  • Discuss haematology treatment plans and their relevance to dental care.
  • Review and discuss relevant case scenarios to apply theoretical knowledge to clinical practice.
Learning outcomes

By the end of this session, practitioners will be able to:

  • Explain how different bleeding disorders impact the provision of dental care.
  • Identify which dental treatments require referral to a tertiary centre.
  • Determine which patients with bleeding disorders need to be referred to a tertiary centre for treatment
