DescriptionThis dedicated training day will take place in the Clinical Skills Unit and forms an essential part of your induction into the Dental Foundation Training Programme. The day is designed to help you familiarise yourself with the clinical environment, refresh your practical skills, and begin to build connections with fellow Foundation Dentists and the wider training team.

Aims
  • Reintroduce Foundation Dentists to core clinical techniques using phantom heads, with support from Educational Supervisors and the Training Programme Director.
  • Welcome Foundation Dentists to the scheme and facilitate introductions among peers and key programme staff.
  • Provide a clear understanding of the Dental Foundation Training structure, expectations, and support systems.
  • Ensure Foundation Dentists know how to seek guidance or raise concerns throughout the year.
Objectives
  • Complete a range of practical exercises, in a supportive environment with informal feedback.
  • Deliver key information about the national and local structure of Dental Foundation Training, including NHS England Northwest’s role.
  • Provide an overview of the training year, including study days, administrative requirements, expenses processes, and how to nominate a Foundation Dentist representative.
Learning outcomes

By the end of the session, Foundation Dentists will be able to:
