Aims

To provide dentist, dental nurses and other staff with the skills to manage medical emergencies within the dental setting including Basic Life Support (BLS)

Objectives
  •  Demonstrate correct use of airway equipment.
  •  Develop awareness and able to use the ABCDE approach in deteriorating patient.
  •  Demonstrate correct BLS
  •  Demonstrate correct and safe use of the AED defibrillator.
  •  To recognise and manage anaphylaxis with appropriate use of the algorithm.
  •  To recognise and manage the patient hypoglycaemic patient.
  •  To recognise and manage the patient with central chest pain (MI).
  •  To recognise and manage the fitting patient with appropriate use of the algorithm.
  •  Develop understanding of roles within dental emergencies.
  •  Develop use of the SBAR handover tool.
Learning outcomes

Working with simulations this course will provide members of the dental team the skills to manage the more common medical emergencies encountered in general dental practices including Basic Life Support (BLS)
