Lecturer profileMelanie qualified as a dentist in 1984 in Wales and has subsequently worked in hospital, general practice and community settings. She is currently a Consultant in Dental Public Health working for Public Health England in Lancashire, Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Central Lancashire and Training Programme Director for Dental Public Health for Health Education England North West. She has chaired the UK Specialty Advisory Committee for Dental Public Health and the Advisory Board for Specialty Training in Dentistry, and also been the lead for teaching and training for the Council of the British Association for the Study of Community Dentistry. Melanie is currently the national lead for the Dental Public Health ePortfolio

Qualified 1991, undertook rotation hospital positions, followed by part-time practice and community dental service. After gaining her PhD, entered specialist dental public health training. Has held university senior lecturer position, worked for Public Health England and now NHSE as Northwest Lead Consultant. Specific interest in frail vulnerable adults, antimicrobial resistance, and oral cancer. Held variety of national roles in the BDA, Chair of BASCD Consultant Dental Public Health Group and currently Chairs UKHSA dental-subgroup ESPAUR. Spare time spent on the side line of hockey pitches
