Lecturer profile | Chris was diagnosed in 2011 with throat cancer. His treatment included radiotherapy, chemotherapy, feeding tube, two neck dissections and lots of recovery. In 2012, he started the Swallows Head & Neck Support Group (now full charity status), which helped him concentrate on helping others and building his belief and confidence back again. Chris wants to ensure no one must live with this disease alone. His aim is to help patients and caregivers’ live life, with and beyond cancer, and improve quality of life. The charity now helps patients and caregivers throughout the UK and has links with many countries around the world. In 2017, he was recognised by Queen Elizabeth II with the Queens Award for Voluntary Service. |
