Fiona is a visiting lecturer and programme advisor and developer, she acts as a key opinion leader and advisor for oral health education and preventative programs across the dental arena. She is a former examiner for the NEBDN Diploma and oral health program and was involved with some of the past pilot sites, supporting dental nurses to undertake additional duties and helping practices to adapt to a new way of working. Fiona has been involved in developing relationships with UKPHR and looking at a wider project for Oral Health Promoters and Educators. She speaks on a number of topics for Health Education England and was privileged to speak alongside Prof Andrew Smith and Mr Lee Worthington at the Institute of Decontamination Sciences Conference.

Fiona is a trained mentor and has fostered and developed a mentoring culture in a number of areas both within and outside of dentistry. Her Mentoring work has been far reaching and more recently has included supporting a scheme to help dental colleagues when working with underperforming dentists. Her final dissertation for her MA in Education looked very closely at the concept of leadership, which has given her greater insight to the ever changing world of health, education and dentistry. This has also helped her in her role as an External Examiner for the University of Dublin
.
She owns a training business in the Midlands, and is the founder of ‘Mentoring Network’ and has been responsible for looking at indemnity packages for dental nurses.

More recently Fiona has taken up a voluntary post and is supporting a government led scheme to provide mentoring in learning for long term cared for children.

Steve qualified in dentistry and medicine at the University of Dundee and subsequently obtained an MSc from the University of Oxford. He was appointed Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery in East Lancashire in 1995, following initial training in Scotland and higher surgical training in Manchester. His main clinical interest is the treatment of oral cancer. He is also currently the Clinical Director for Cancer Services in East Lancashire, a past Training Programme Director for the North West and past Raven Tutor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons. For many years he has run the ‘Clinical Photography for Surgeons, Doctors and Dentists’ course at the Royal College of Surgeons.
