Lecturer profileI qualified from Liverpool University BDS in 1991 having previously gained a BSc (Hons) degree in Pharmacology. I was awarded the Diploma in Restorative Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons in December 2008; and an MSc in Restorative Dentistry followed this from the University of Leeds in 2010. I have recently been awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Medical Education from Edge Hill University. As well as working in general practice 3 days per week, I am the Associate Dental Dean for Conduct & Performance at HEE NW. I was previously a Specialty Dentist/Hon Teaching Fellow at Manchester University. I examine for the and am of Course Director for the CGDent/FGDP's Diploma in Restorative Dentistry. I am also Deputy Lead for the ORE.

Dr.Shamsi is based in Staffordshire and is the Clinical Director of Horizons Dental Centre. He has been a Dental Foundation Trainer for almost 10 years and Training Programme Director in Health Education West Midlands for over 13 years. He is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons and recently completed his 10 year appointment on the Fitness to Practice panel for the GDC adjudicating matters of Professional Misconduct. He is also a CQC Specialist Advisor and a Risk Management workshop presenter for Dental Protection. He was recently appointed on the Council for the Medical Protection Advisory Board and awarded double Fellowship by the College of General Dentistry and the Faculty of Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.

Mike is a practicing GDP working in a mixed NHS/Private practice. He has done this for twenty five years and do this 2 days per week.
He was an ES for the Mersey Deanery for 10 years and until he became a Training Programme Director for HEE NW. Mike has been doing this role for both DFT and PLVE for last six years and this take up the other 3 days.
He is also a clinical investigator and complaint manager for NHS England Cheshire and Merseyside, where he reviews complaints and mentors GDPs in need of help.
Mike has set up and works in a practice that utilises both therapists and hygienists to help deliver the NHS contract.

He is now TPD for the JDFCT 2-year scheme which combines DFT and DCT over a two year period.
