Aims

Aim

To provide participants with an overview of the key mental health issues which may affect the way they engage and deliver a service to patients who may have mental health challenges

Objectives

By the end of the workshop, participants will have:

  • Developed an awareness of the type and scale of mental health issues which may impact on their patients
  • Started to develop their understanding of the signs which may indicate possible mental illness.
  • An awareness of the impact of some psychiatric treatments on oral health
  • An understanding of a range of legal and ethical issues that can arise when patients with mental disorder receive dental treatment

  • What do we mean by mental health/ill health?
  • Signs and symptoms of the main mental health conditions and potential Impact on capacity
  • Impact of some psychiatric conditions on oral health
