Aims
  • To appreciate the range of periodontal conditions that require treatment and those that do not.
  • To understand the principle aetiological and risk factors involved in the development of periodontal diseases
  • To understand the importance of screening and assessment for periodontal disease in general dental practice
  • To appreciate the range of treatment options available for periodontal diseases
Objectives
  • To understand when new treatment techniques, such as regeneration can be used
  • To understand the relevance of antimicrobials in periodontal treatment
  • To be able to undertake long-term treatment planning in complex cases

Learning Outcomes:

The course should enable participants to:

  • Diagnose periodontal diseases accurately and effectively
  • Use BPE as a fast and effectve screening tool
  • Select the correct treatment options in a variety of clinical situations
  • Plan in detail treatment approaches relevant to individual patients
  • Decide more easily when to treat and when to refer
