Aims

Building skills and confidence to support people with dementia effectively

Objectives

The day explores four areas:

  • “What’s happening” how each person’s experience is unique and looks at what dementia is.
  • “Who am I?” how our memory works and to appreciate how our past shapes our future
  • “A strange new world” how dementia can affect the perception of the environment and the world around us.
  • “Connect with me” recognises different ways of communication and the importance of touch in connecting with people.

Learning Outcomes

  • To identify different causes of dementia and how this may impact on the way that people interact with the world around them.
