Aims

To update the dental team on issues relating to the provision of Conscious Sedation for adult and paediatric patients.

Objectives

By the end of the event, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the range of behavioural methods of anxiety reduction and evaluate their effectiveness and limitations
  • Discuss the appropriate uses of both adult and paediatric sedation in primary dental care and identify common sedation related complications
  • Critically assess risks associated with IV sedation and discuss ways to improve patient safety
  • Identify when a referral to specialist services is required
