To highlight and practice key communication skills in a simulated setting following a patient's journey.

Objectives

To work in small groups with an actor and facilitator to simulate and reflect on a difficult real life clinical scenario.

To practice using specific communication skills to achieve a positive outcome.

To give and receive focused and constructive feedback from colleagues.

Learning outcomes

Being aware of key skills for clinical communication when interacting with patients and colleagues.

To participate in a simulated consultation; to observe and give feedback from colleagues.

Considering how to deal with difficult scenarios effectively to achieve a positive outcome for both the patient and clinician.

Being aware of professional boundaries and guidelines when a patient complains.
