Aims

To highlight and practice key communication skills in a simulated setting following a patient's journey.

Objectives
  • To work in small groups with an actor and facilitator to simulate and reflect on a difficult real life clinical scenario.
  • To practice using specific communication skills to achieve a positive outcome.
  • To give and receive focused and constructive feedback from colleagues.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

  • Being aware of key skills for clinical communication when interacting with patients and colleagues.
  • To participate in a simulated consultation; to observe and give feedback from colleagues.
  • Considering how to deal with difficult scenarios effectively to achieve a positive outcome for both the patient and clinician.
  • Being aware of professional boundaries and guidelines when a patient complains.
