Aims

The aim of this course is to educate delegates in the principles of first aid and medical emergencies, including:

Basic Life Support - Adult, child and AED.

Airway management and use of oxygen.

Control of bleeding.

Fractures.

Causes of unconsciousness.

Treatment of burns and scalds.

Major/minor illnesses and the use of emergency drugs and IM injection technique.

Risk assessments.

Use of emergency equipment within the practices.

Objectives

Once competence has been assessed and this qualification awarded, candidates with have demonstrated the following:

All the skills to properly assess/diagnose major conditions and injuries.

Management in a simulated environment, treatment of a casualty with various medical conditions/emergencies and give appropriate treatment within the parameters of their knowledge and training until more skilled personnel assume responsibility.

Team/scene management skills.

Knowledge of appropriate drug use for medical emergencies.

The safe and effective use of emergency resuscitation equipment.
