Aims | · An update for practicing and training dental hygienists and therapists on modern concepts of debridement · Clarification on the use of ultrasonics as the primary non-surgical treatment modality · Discussion points on dietary modification of chronic inflammatory diseases such as periodontitis | ||
Objectives | · To discuss the role of the host response and biofilm disruption · To compare and contrast the use of ultrasonic and hand instrumentation · To address varying debridement techniques based on clinical and laboratory evidence · To provide a mechanistic understanding for discussing diet with your periodontitis patients, backed up with clinical studies · To apply these objectives to the “Healthy gums do matter” framework Learning Outcomes · To obtain contemporaneous knowledge on the rationale for debridement · To be able to objectively assess the pro’s and con’s of various debridement methods · To be able to provide your patients with appropriate dietary advice as an adjunct to non-surgical periodontal therapy | ||
