DescriptionThis level two webinar is suitable for all Dentists and DCPs. This course will equip staff with the skills and knowledge to be able to identify, respond to, and report safeguarding concerns in children and vulnerable adults in dental practice.

Aims

This webinar aims to provide dental professionals with the processes, practices & systems to be able to identify and report abuse or neglect of patients and staff within their care.

Objectives

Safeguarding Children

  • Child development / National assessment framework (attachment theory)
  • Child Protection Process (Working Together 2013)
  • Joint investigation process & roles/responsibilities of professionals involved
  • Perspective of child & family involved in CP process
  • Knowledge of CP conferences & role of independent reviewing officer
  • Knowledge of LSCB’s

Safeguarding Adults at Risk

  • Understand roles & responsibilities of others under Safeguarding Adults at Risk Procedures
  • Understand the investigation process from alert to referral, planning meeting & protection plan
  • Understanding emotional aspect of making a decision for another who lacks capacity
  • Demonstrate an awareness of the main principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 Best interest principles
  • Understand the requirements of the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
  • Other safeguarding arrangements eg MAPPA & MARAC and National Child and Domestic Abuse Disclosure schemes
  • Knowledge of SAP boards
  • Referral pathway - meeting structure – time scales
