DescriptionThis final consolidation workshop brings together the knowledge and skills developed throughout the programme, allowing participants to reflect on their research journey and apply their learning in a practical setting. Foundation Dentists will explore how research, evidence generation and critical appraisal support clinical practice, while developing and delivering a peer teaching session to share key research concepts with colleagues.

Aims

To consolidate learning from across the programme, enabling Foundation Dentists to reflect on their development in research knowledge and skills, apply research principles to clinical practice, and develop confidence in communicating research concepts through peer teaching.

Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Reflect on their learning and development throughout the six-week research programme.
  • Integrate key principles of research methodology, analysis, interpretation and dissemination.
  • Recognise how research and evidence-based practice inform everyday clinical decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities for future engagement in research, audit and quality improvement activities.
  • Develop effective teaching approaches to communicate research concepts to peers.
Learning outcomes

On completion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Summarise key learning from across the programme, including research methodology, study design, data analysis, dissemination, leadership and clinical academic pathways.
  • Explain how different stages of the research process connect to generate meaningful evidence.
  • Reflect on how research knowledge and skills can be applied within their future clinical practice.
  • Identify potential opportunities for continued involvement in research, audit or quality improvement projects.
  • Apply principles of effective adult learning to design and deliver an engaging peer teaching session.
  • Develop a structured research teaching session with clear aims, objectives, appropriate teaching methods and supporting materials.
