| Aims | To develop the knowledge, clinical decision-making, communication skills, and practical competence required to diagnose, plan, perform, and evaluate non-surgical endodontic treatment for straightforward cases, while recognising limitations and appropriate referral pathways. | ||
| Objectives | Review the diagnosis, indications, procedures, outcomes, and sequelae of root canal treatment. Differentiate between pulpal health and pulpal disease, identifying conditions requiring endodontic treatment or onward referral. Discuss the restorative prognosis of endodontically treated teeth within the context of comprehensive treatment planning and patient expectations. Review current national guidance on maintaining accurate and contemporaneous clinical records, whether conventional or electronic. Demonstrate and practise non-surgical root canal treatment and retreatment on single- and multi-rooted teeth with mild canal curvature in a simulated environment. Recognise the limitations of primary care endodontics and identify cases requiring referral to secondary care or a specialist practitioner. Develop effective communication strategies to explain endodontic diagnoses, treatment options, risks, benefits, and prognosis to patients and carers. Discuss how to provide clear, sensitive, and patient-centred information when referring patients for further care. | ||
