Aims

To develop confidence in the assessment and management of acute dental patients, including dental trauma, while ensuring appropriate NHS claiming and use of current clinical guidance.

Objectives

Understand the assessment and examination of the acute dental patient.

Recognise and manage common acute dental conditions and dental trauma.

Apply the correct NHS claiming processes for urgent care.

Become familiar with the 'Saving Smiles' toolkit and its implementation in practice.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this session, DFT's will be able to:

  • Assess and manage patients presenting with acute dental problems.
  • Recognise and provide appropriate initial management for dental trauma.
  • Complete accurate NHS claims for urgent treatment.
  • Use the 'Saving Smiles' toolkit to support the management of dental trauma in primary care.
