Description With increasing life expectancy and increasing numbers of patients maintaining their teeth for life, tooth wear is increasing in prevalence within the population. This seminar will explore how tooth wear can be managed in a general dental practice setting.

Aims

To examine the aetiology of tooth wear and how this can be assessed, monitored, and treated in general dental practice. There will be an emphasis on management with a minimal intervention dentistry approach.

Objectives
  • Discuss the classification and aetiology of tooth wear.
  • Compare different management strategies for monitoring and treating tooth wear.
  • Explain how management of occlusion is often critical to treatment of tooth wear cases.
  • Show case examples of treatment of tooth wear using both analogue and digital planning techniques.
Learning outcomes

At the end of the session, delegates should be able to:

  • Identify and diagnose tooth wear.
  • Recognise differing presentations of tooth wear due to different causative factors.
  • Implement appropriate management and treatment strategies in tooth wear cases.
