To enhance the dental team’s understanding and practical skills in capturing, selecting, and submitting high-quality digital clinical photographs to support accurate, timely, and effective electronic referrals within NHS dental services.

Objectives
  • Discuss the role of clinical photography in improving the quality and efficiency of electronic referrals across dental specialties.
  • Identify the essential equipment, settings, and techniques required to capture clear, diagnostic-quality intraoral and extraoral images.
  • Apply principles of patient consent, confidentiality, and data governance when taking, storing, and transmitting digital images.
  • Recognise common errors and quality issues in referral images and understand how to avoid them.
  • Follow local and national referral guidelines for attaching and submitting images securely through electronic referral systems
  • Promote team-based approaches to integrating digital photography into daily clinical workflows, ensuring consistent quality and compliance across the practice.
