Aims

To discuss the legal requirements of radiation protection within the dental practice - keeping patients and staff safe

Objectives
  • Review the key elements of Quality Assurance with due regard to IRR17, IR(ME)R 2017 and IR(ME) Amendment Regulations 2024
  • Discuss the documentation that you should have in place to evidence compliance with legislation and to ensure that you are actively implementing radiation protection measures within your practice. This includes a review of Local Rules and the Employer’s Written Procedures.
  • Draw on the ‘Guidance Notes for Dental Practitioners’ and consider how these aid compliance with legislation.
  • Identify the requirements for documenting and reporting a radiation incident in line with CQC criteria.
Learning outcomes

By the end of the session, delegates will be able to identify the legal duties for radiation protection in dental radiography, know what documentation is needed to demonstrate compliance, and be able to report radiation incidents in line with CQC requirements.
