Aims

To enhance participants’ practical knowledge and competence in effective dental instrument decontamination and infection control in accordance with current UK guidelines (e.g., HTM 01-05),promoting best practices in patient and staff safety.

Objectives
  • Discuss the key principles and legal requirements of dental decontamination and cross-infection control.
  • Identify each stage of the decontamination cycle, including cleaning, disinfection, inspection,sterilisation, and storage.
  • Demonstrate correct use of decontamination equipment such as ultrasonic cleaners, washer-disinfectors, and autoclaves.
  • Apply appropriate PPE protocols and workflow zoning (dirty-to-clean flow) in a simulatedclinical environment.
Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, participants will be able to perform the decontamination process confidently, apply HTM 01-05 standards in practice, and use PPE and zoning protocols safely and effectively.
