Aims

Delegates will be able to set up a surgery and assist the surgeon to undertake minor oral surgery (MOS) within a simulated setting, develop their skills and confidence, learn new techniques

Objectives
  • Delegates will review the preparation of patients, the surgical environment, proper instrument layout, and the sterilisation processes.
  • Study the importance of patient's medical history; understand contraindications, and how to manage at risk patients
  • Review the common procedures undertaken in MOS with some being demonstrated on a pig's head
  • Discuss the importance of good communication, compassionate care and working as a team.
  • Have a better understanding of the importance of their role in these apsects of MOS patient care
  • Assess delivering pre and post-operative advice and the importance of maintaining accurate records
  • Gain a better understanding of the referral process
Learning outcomes

Delegates will have better understanding of:

  • Basics of oral surgery practice
  • Set up a surgery for MOS, and assist the surgeon
  • Clean down the surgery and sterilize the instruments
  • Provide patient post-op instructions
