DescriptionThis course has been designed specifically for dentists across Lancashire and South Cumbria involved in the Paediatric Pathway. The session will answer questions on the treatment planning required for effective caries management in young children. Dentists will gain a thorough understanding of caries risk evaluation, treatment planning strategies, and referral pathways.

Aims

The session provides an overview of assessment, investigations and treatment planning for caries in young children, including when to refer to secondary care services.

Objectives
  • Distinguish how to conduct a comprehensive assessment of young children
  • Identify how to develop effective treatment plans for children
  • Recognise when and how to appropriately refer children to specialist dental services
Learning outcomes

By the end of this session, dentists will be able to conduct comprehensive assessments for young children, including caries risk, periodontal risk, prevention, stabilisation, modified BPE, radiology, recall, and commissioning standards; formulate appropriate treatment plans for caries management and identify when and how to refer to Specialist Services for further care.
