The course fee is £195.00 and includes a sandwich lunch and refreshments. 

Places on this course are limited to 16 and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. The course closing date is 20th September 2024.

Cancellation policy: A refund, less £35 administration fee, is guaranteed for cancellations received up to four weeks before the start of the course (6th September at 5pm). Aims

Delegates will cover a wide range of learning outcomes to prepare them for management and leadership roles within the NHS. Teaching will be supported by extensive consideration of appropriate, real-life management scenarios that a consultant would commonly face. Delegates will have access to a range of resources such as policies, protocols and legislation and the opportunity to undertake mock examination scenarios on a one-to-one basis.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the event delegates will be able to:

  • Recognise approaches to managing others, including early identification of concerns, diagnostic pathways for escalation and support, and local performance investigations.
  • Discuss risk assessment and risk management.
  • Outline appraisal, interview, and consultant job planning.
  • Explain key aspects of the role of the clinical leader, including leadership style.
  • Describe duty of candour and raising concerns.
  • Discuss the roles of the clinical director and the clinical lead.
  • Recount the principles of management and leadership in the NHS.
  • Outline the principles of, and contribute to writing, a business plan.
  • Identify reported perceptions of the NHS amongst the population of the UK.
  • Discuss illustrative scenarios.
