Aims
  • Use the ABCDE and SAMPLE assessment tools to accurately identify illnesses and determine the need for clinical intervention.
  • Utilise flowcharts to implement a systematic approach in managing each emergency situation.
  • Effectively prioritise patients and make appropriate decisions on when to call 999
Objectives
  • Implement medical emergency treatment for patients of all age groups who become unwell in your dental practice.
  • Use the ABCDE and SAMPLE systematic approach to identify patient complaints and utilise specific flowcharts for each medical emergency.
  • Perform lifesaving interventions and plan the appropriate outcome or destination for each incident.
Learning outcomes

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Provide assistance during medical emergencies using a systematic approach.
  • Competently administer lifesaving drugs and perform effective Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Work collaboratively as a team during medical emergencies and determine when to call emergency services.
  • Provide continued care until the arrival of emergency services.
  • Act within their boundaries of their training and professional scope.
