Aims

To raise the importance of the provision of preventative care to support and enable patients to take action to avoid poor oral health and the negative aspects to general health.

Objectives
  • Identify the barriers to inclusion of preventative oral health advice.
  • Review why and how preventative advice can be incorporated within the dental practice.
  • Discuss the new contract reform ‘ Smile for Life’ ambitious programme to promote good oral health across the life course.
  • Consider the impact on patients oral and general health should preventative advice not be included in patient care.
Learning outcomes

Participants will be able maximise the inclusion of preventive oral care advice within the practice setting.
