Aims

To improve dental nurse confidence in the use of extended duties in the clinical situation to enhance patient care.

Objectives
  • Discuss additional duties as listed in the GDC Scope of Practice and identify current practices within the group.
  • Outline the GDC Standards document including the nine Principles and how each of these apply when carrying out extended duties.
  • Using scenarios and group work, discuss the application of good communication skills when carrying out regular and extended duties.
  • Recap enhanced CPD requirements as outlined by the GDC including recommended topics, recording and development of a Personal Development Plan.
Learning outcomes

Delegates will be able to:

  • Recall the nine Principles as outlined in the GDC Standards document and how these will be applied in the clinical setting when carrying out extended duties.
  • Have greater confidence in the application of extended duties whilst putting patient’s best interests first.
  • Demonstrate improved communication and patient management skills in the workplace.
  • Recognise the requirements for enhanced CPD including recommended topics and development of a Personal Development Plan.
