The presentation will utilise statutory safeguarding reviews and case studies to support delegates in; improving their knowledge and confidence in applying safeguarding practices in their day to day work, know where to go for support, understand how to learn from past incidents and also understand how they fit into the larger multi-agency safeguarding adults team.

To improve confidence in professionals applying safeguarding principles in their day to day work by utilising case studies and statutory reviews thus, enabling the professionals to support adults at risk of abuse and neglect.

• Restate statutory safeguarding legislation
• Clarify what constitutes adult abuse and be able to support others in fulfilling their adult safeguarding duties.
• Explain ‘Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SAR’s) and how to apply learning to practice
• Discuss ‘making safeguarding personal’ and how trauma informed care supports this
• Express confidence in contributing to and supporting multi-agency assessments or enquires.
• Review how to ‘think family’ and see the bigger picture around the situation
• Define the importance of gathering and sharing of information, including the person’s views on risk.
• Classify how to report safeguarding concerns and associated documentation, including ‘caring responsibilities’
• Indicate the importance of safeguarding supervision

Following the session delegates will:

• have improved knowledge, skills and confidence in recognising and supporting individuals with safeguarding concerns and know what actions to take
• know what responsibility they have in safeguarding adults and how they can support colleagues and the wider health system by learning from statutory reviews.
