RSPH Accredited Mental Health First Aid Qualification (NW240410A)

The Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Qualification course teaches people how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue. MHFA won’t teach you to be a therapist, but it will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis – and even potentially stop a crisis from happening.

You’ll learn to recognise warning signs of mental ill health and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support someone while keeping yourself safe. You’ll also learn how to empower someone to access the support they might need for recovery or successful management of symptoms. This could include self-help books or websites, accessing therapy services through their GP, their school or place of work, online self-referral, support groups, and more. What’s more, you’ll gain an understanding of how to support positive wellbeing and tackle stigma in the world around you.

Programme Layout

The course will be made up of two, full day, face to face sessions plus an exam. You must attend both sessions and agree to complete the exam within 12 weeks of completing the face to face sessions.

Important Information

Places on this course are allocated on an application basis. Only applications from those who have trained as a Mental Health Champion with Health Education England will be considered.

Course Costs

£50 DCP        £75 GDP

Payment for course places will be requested via Maxcourse once places are allocated. By applying for the course you agree that you will be able to attend both full day face to face sessions. If for any reason you are unable to complete the course you will be liable for the full cost of the course which would be a further £221.50 for DCPs and a further £196.50 for dentists.

• Promote early intervention which enables recovery.

Following completion of the qualification participants will be able to:

• Recognise poor Mental Health and the issues which impact this
• Begin and continue conversations with those who are experiencing Mental Health issues
• Signpost people to appropriate help and support.
