Aims

To work confidently and collaboratively as a team when dealing with medical emergencies, working within the boundaries of practice.

Objectives

To

  • Apply a systematic approach ABCDE and SAMPLE assessment tool to identify a ‘poorly’ person using the 7 principles of patient management.
  • Utilise this decision making tool to effectively prioritise patients and perform life saving intervention when required.
  • Competently employ 2 minutes of affective CPR and safe use of an AED.
  • Demonstrate how to secure an airway using manual techniques and air way adjuncts.
  • Employ efficient use of ABCDE and SAMPLE assessment tool to identify the cause of illness.
  • Implement treatment when indicated and administer practice medical emergency drugs to improve or stabilise the poorly patient.
  • Identify when to call 999/112 and when to update the emergency services if the patient condition deteriorates or improves.
Learning outcomes

After the course delegates will be able to provide assistance in the event of a medical emergency, to patient/s using a systematic approach acting within the boundaries of your training.
