Why your professional association is important:

  • To provide an introduction to the benefits of belonging to the BDA, as a professional body and as a trade union

The Future:

To discuss

  • the change in dentistry, in legislation and regulation and in the world at large
  • the objectives and design of the current NHS contract pilots
  • the measures defined in the quality component of proposed new contract
  • the impact of the likely future changes around working lives both on the profession generally and specifically to young dentists, and
  • the importance of enhanced skills will be emphasised

Ethics:

  • FD's will be asked to share their experiences so far, of reconciling everyday practice with their ethical obligations. 
  • FD's may raise issues such as quality of care, patient choice, financial constraints and pressures, consent, confidentiality, unproven techniques and dealing with underperformance.
Objectives

Ethics:

  • To discuss honesty, trust, professionalism, integrity, GDC guidance and medical ethical principles (pure ethics) both in the workplace and in our private lives.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Why your professional association is important:

  • To learn the importnace of ethics, the dangers of isolation and the need for advice and support throughout an FD's career

The Future:

  • FD's will understand the importance of career pathways, workforce changes, direct access, skill mix and contractual changes on their lives.  Delegates shoudl understand the impact of macro-economic factors on healthcare policy and the driving forces behind the Department of Health policy-making.

Ethics:

  • FD's will have a better understanding of ethical principles, professionalism, trust and aGDS guidance on ethics.
