• How to approach periodontal disease management using the Healthy Gums DO Matter Toolkit

• An overview of the new classification system for periodontal disease and how to practically implement it in general practice

Objectives

• To understand the importance of screening, diagnosing and treating periodontal disease and the legal and ethical duties of care

• Understand the new classification system for periodontal disease

• Learn how to use the BSP's implementation of the new classification system in practice for classifying and diagnosing periodontal disease

• To look at the challenges of managing periodontal disease working under the NHS contract

• To introduce the Healthy Gums DO Matter toolkit for managing periodontal disease working under the NHS contract

• To understand the importance of effective communication and behaviour change

• To introduce how to assess patient engagement

Learning outcomes

• Delegates will be familiar with and be able to use the new classification system for periodontal diseases and conditions and have an introduction to the Health Gums DO Matter toolkit approach for screening, diagnosing and managing periodontal disease in primary dental care.
