Aims
  • To explore the definition of sepsis and the management of theses patients using the structures A-E Approach within the dental practice setting
Objectives
  • Describe a structures approach used for the management of a seriously ill patient
  • List the components of the structured approach
  • Demonstrate the use of a structures approach within a team
  • List treatment actions required as part of the assessment
  • Improve awareness of the ill patient including sepsis
  • Reflect on current training within the practice team and identify areas for improvement
Learning outcomes

Following the session delegates will be able to:

  • Define sepsis and list the effects on the individual
  • Identify patient at risk of sepsis
  • List treatment strategies available within secondary care setting
  • Recognise and discuss treatment strategies that focus on the deteriorating patient A-E approach within the dental setting
  • Demonstrate recognition of the ill patient using the "Action Plan”
