Aims

This lecture will present an overview of the current status of dental implantology and the recent technological & clinical advances in this field to enable the dentist to provide appropriate advice to patients requiring implant treatment as well as maintenance of patients with dental implants.

Objectives
  1. Learn treatment options for the patient with tooth loss 
  2. Learn what implant treatment options might be appropriate for different modalities of tooth loss
  3. Develop knowledge and skills on a traumatic tooth extraction technique 
Learning outcomes

After this lecture the learner will be able too:

  1. Discuss the current status of dental implantology and review the recent technological and clinical advances in this field
  2. Discuss the educational pathways and career options available to dentists in implant dentistry in the UK
  3. Discuss the treatment plan options for the management of tooth loss and how to advise patients on dental implant options
  4. Discuss maintenance of the dental implant patient
